Seems it's currently bugged then, as there's no option to sell them for me, only to buy. You only get half the price for them and have to pay a transport fee as there is no way to transport them. You should be able to sell your chickens though the animal dialog box as I have seen others do it this way. Since realising how bugged chickens are I decided to just get rid of the coop and go with horses instead, but I can't get rid of the coop it seems till the chickens are gone first.
